Home of Lviv-based trio/duo
Lagging a bit with site updates… two new Consort releases were released on Bandcamp during the recent months. One is based around songs Jaroslav’s grandmother used to sing, and touches on many ideas/places besides that; in a way it’s continuing where “Наладнав; забув” left off. The other one is a peek into a certain mode and quality of playing that we reached around 2012 (and that lasted until 2013), and to allow more focus on that, it has no cuts/edits, just a few longish pieces recorded as played from start to finish.
Riasni Drova Consort played live in Chernivtsi at the end of June, five years after the first concert there, again organised by Zhan Pobe / Dzestra. We’re quite happy about how it turned out this time. There are some photos from the concert. Also the full audio recording is available on Bandcamp:
The most deliberately assembled album of the Ukrainian trio to date. Baroque-era horses grazing among ionized leftovers of retired contemporary musics. Distance without irony. Freeform art going native and learning to incorporate its doubt and suspicion into its freedom. Tangible unprotected things and songs. (Also up on FMA.)
New archival release, a Riasni Drova trio/duo split from 2011. The duo thing is basically a long percussion duet, not typical fare for us ooooo-types. The title is for now a working title, and there are going to be more working titles for a while, until Oleg returns from the army and starts renaming it all.
A new message in a bottle that did not reach the ancestors on time; from sweet home 2011.
Riasni Drova Consort – Бенкет; хребет @ Bandcamp
New release of old mono recordings on Bandcamp. Chorales, fantasias and romps with Taras Fedirko.
The label that was interested in Green Ray District as a split side went to sleep about a year ago. This short album includes another episode of our JJNilesploitation series and comes in an anatomical mix specifically for the prying ears for whom bathing in atmospherics is the last thing on their minds.
And straight from the obskuryatnik comes the second one, this time from Riasni Drova Consort: Famiglie, intere specie di bagagli. Similar story: the friendly label that cared for this album went into anabiosis as far back as 2010. Andrij thinks that “sub-Incus avant rednecks” sums up the music here very well; this was maybe the last session when we felt fine and happy doing something of this sort. Soon afterwards we became preoccupied with quite different flows.
Head submerged in a fountain, legs shoved each into its own blind alley, using abdomenal contractions, elbows and fingers, it tickles, it anthemizes… “Complications Set In” was recorded throughout 2011 employing plucked psaltery, guitar-centered chain fission and other varieties of sprawling aural puff pastry in which components of our favourite Ivor Cutler song wallow. The album includes a collage booklet by Temko Czech. Proceed to the bandcamp by clicking on the cover. Also published on the FMA courtesy of our friend We Have No Zen!
Our archival self-release stream quietly trickles on. “Yellow Grass Dam” is a new free release on Riasni Drova Consort’s bandcamp. It sums up our 2010 joys and concerns pretty decisively. Like the “Berezhene” CD-R, but with better butter.
The freshest Riasni Drova Consort, a live session performed early this June in Chernivtsi at the “Literatur Cafe”, is available now for your ears (bandcamp listen/download). One and a half hours of warmups, breakdowns, Lost Reformation scrape, three tragic songs and long hopeful stretches of “аж тіпає”. To make you feel even more as if you were there, here are some photos. Thank you the organizers and the audience!
